One\u2019s dead, one on the lam.<\/a>\u00a0 I bet they have him in custody (hopefully alive) by sundown.\u00a0 Nobody knows why they did it yet.\u00a0 I wish people would stop filling in the blanks with their favorite bogey men.\u00a0 Yesterday, for no reason, people were attributing it to \u201cprolife extremists\u201d.\u00a0 Others were sure it was white supremacists.\u00a0 Others, Al-quaeda.\u00a0 Turns out it was from deep left field and nobody we expected.<\/p>\n

But still, aside from the fact these guys are Chechen and, apparently, Muslim, we don\u2019t know anything.\u00a0 We don\u2019t even know if it was connected to nationalism or Islam.\u00a0 They might just be losers, like Lee Harvey Oswald, proving their loser manhood to the universe.<\/p>\n

People often get mad at me for vocally opposing the death penalty and torture.\u00a0 They seem to think I regard myself as a stainless saint.\u00a0 What people don\u2019t get is that these things are\u2013particularly at moments like this\u2013massively tempting for me<\/em>.\u00a0 It is easy to fantasize about what I would do to these sons of bitches if I was the man whose wife was brain-damaged, whose son was dead, whose daughter had her legs blown off.\u00a0 I have sufficient imagination to devise punishments of such cruelty and exquisite\u00a0slowness that your blood would freeze.\u00a0 Part of me wants very much to see men like this beg for death to relieve their agonies\u2013and then to very slowly and with relish give it to them.<\/p>\n

But that part of me has nothing to do with Jesus Christ and if I let it rule me, I will go to hell.\u00a0 So I reassert the Church\u2019s teaching here loudly, because I want to go to heaven.<\/p>\n
