The Englishman
\n by G.K. Chesterton<\/p>\nSt George he was for England,
\n And before he killed the dragon
\n He drank a pint of English ale
\n Out of an English flagon.
\n For though he fast right readily
\n In hair-shirt or in mail,
\n It isn\u2019t safe to give him cakes
\n Unless you give him ale.<\/p>\nSt George he was for England,
\n And right gallantly set free
\n The lady left for dragon\u2019s meat
\n And tied up to a tree;
\n But since he stood for England
\n And knew what England means,
\n Unless you give him bacon
\n You mustn\u2019t give him beans.<\/p>\nSt George he is for England,
\n And shall wear the shield he wore
\n When we go out in armour
\n With battle-cross before.
\n But though he is jolly company
\n And very pleased to dine,
