My name is Neil Mussett, and I wanted to let you know about an amazing, funny, and very substantive podcast on the Sunday Mass readings called \u201cThe Word on the Hill with the Lanky Guys\u201d (http:\/\/www.lankyguys.org<\/a>). My brother, Father Peter Mussett, and Scott Powell (a Steubenville grad and a student of Scott Hahn and Tim Grey) present a 45-minute podcast every Thursday on the upcoming Sunday readings (all four of them!).<\/p>\n

They seem to share your lighthearted lets-keep-perspective-with-a-little-humor approach.<\/p>\n

I was listening to the\u00a0Archdiocese of Denver podcast<\/a>\u00a0when one of the co-hosts mentioned\u00a0the Lanky Guys podcast<\/a>. It was a passing comment, but even so, she said that she listened to them every week.<\/p>\n

There are few things that can make me run to iTunes faster than hearing a compellingly named show\u2014\u201dWhat does it MEAN to be a lanky guy and a Catholic podcaster? Do they just need some good meals?\u201d I wondered aloud as I opened iTunes\u2014that has a loyal fan base.<\/p>\n

In the three or four weeks I\u2019ve been listening to\u00a0the Lanky Guys and their Word on the Hill podcast<\/a>, I\u2019ve come to realize why they have a loyal fan base.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re great: entertaining, tongue-in-cheek, delightfully rabbit trailing, in-depth, and like clockwork every single week.<\/p>\n

The premise of the show is simple: Fr. Peter Mussett, pastor of the St. Thomas Aquinas Center, and Scott Powell, self-proclaimed scripture genius, dive into the scriptures for the upcoming weekend.<\/p>\n

All four of them. That\u2019s the Old Testament, the Psalm, the epistle\/New Testament, and the Gospel. And they do it in under an hour. With laughter on top.<\/p>\n

I have not listened to an episode yet where I\u2019m not verbally interacting\u2014laughing, um-hmmm-ing, jotting down something to check out later. Without fail, they give me added depth in my consideration of scripture.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just fun to listen to (though it\u00a0IS<\/em>\u00a0that), it\u2019s also educational and enlightening.<\/p>\n

So when you start listening, remember I sent you. I\u2019ll take that shout out. (You\u2019ll find out what I mean after you listen\u2026)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
