He is ever so worried about \u201cthe Church\u2019s gay obsession\u201d. \u00a0No. Really<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a little excerpt from the introduction to Salt and Light: The Commandments, the Beatitudes, and a Joyful Life<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is a famous Far Side<\/em> cartoon that describes what we say to our dogs (\u201cDid you get into the trash, Ginger? You\u2019ve been a bad dog! Don\u2019t do that, Ginger!\u201d) versus what our dogs hear (\u201cBlah blah blah, GINGER, blah blah blah, GINGER!\u201d). If all you had to go on was what you see in the media, you\u2019d get the impression that when the Church speaks, what our watchdogs in the press hear is \u201cBlah blah blah, SEX, blah blah blah, SEX.\u201d Catholic moral teaching, in the world\u2019s eyes, more or less begins and ends with sex.<\/p>\n

For instance, Pope Benedict XVI writes an entire encyclical called God Is Love<\/em>, in which he reflects on the profundities of God\u2019s revelation in Christ, and The\u00a0<\/em>New York Times<\/em> can only think to say, with some mystification, that it does \u201cnot mention abortion, homosexuality, contraception or divorce, issues that often divide Catholics<\/a>.\u201d Such observations are then punctuated with the eyeroll-inducing complaint that the Church is obsessed with sex and talks of nothing else.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
