Yesterday, one of the last of this season\u2019s election flyers arrived at my Post Office from the GOP. It read:<\/p>\n

SCOTT BROWN HAS A
\nSTRONG RECORD OF FIGHTING
\nFOR WHAT IS RIGHT.<\/i><\/p>\n

SCOTT IS PRO-CHOICE & SUPPORTS
\nISSUES IMPORTANT TO WOMEN.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Now Scott Brown is certainly \u201cpro-choice\u201d, as is his right. It hasn\u2019t been a big part of his campaign \u2013 he got a lot of traction from immigration, and from Jeanne Shaheen\u2019s abysmal debate performances \u2013 and realistically, whatever one feels about abortion, today\u2019s election results won\u2019t make a whit of difference on the issue. Still, I\u2019d have no objection to Mr Brown sending out campaign literature bragging about his position.<\/p>\n

But this flyer came from the New Hampshire Republican State Committee.<\/p>\n

The official position of the State Committee is that it is opposed to abortion. You can read the platform\u00a0here<\/a>:<\/p>\n

We believe<\/b>\u00a0that life is sacred, from conception to natural death and that we cannot diminish the value of one category of human life without diminishing the value of all human life.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition the NH GOP is committed to\u2026<\/p>\n

Support the unborn child\u2019s fundamental right to life and implement all possible legal protections<\/i><\/p>\n

Encourage individuals and organizations who provide alternatives to abortion by meeting the needs of mothers through adoption, support, counseling and educational services<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now maybe that\u2019s all squaresville, uptight social-conservative stuff, and not where the party needs to be in 2014. Nevertheless, it\u2019s the official position, and the base has been disinclined to change it. So when a pro-life State Committee sends out leaflets boasting about being pro-choice, they\u2019re telling you that those two bolded words \u201cwe believe\u201d are meaningless when uttered by a New Hampshire Republican official. Why would what they claim to \u201cbelieve\u201d on Obamacare or debt or foreign policy be any more reliable? When a man tells you his word is bullsh*t, take him at it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Pro-lifers: \u00a0I hope somebody who loves you will do an intervention in your unhealthy abusive relationship with the GOP. \u00a0How many times does he have to beat you up and then promise you he really loves you before you develop some self-respect and leave the guy? \u00a0Your worth does not come from his empty promises to make you powerful. \u00a0It comes from God and the rightness of your cause. \u00a0Mr. GOP\u00a0doesn\u2019t care about you. \u00a0He only cares about using you.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
