Thank you for your blog on health care as a right. I am one of those \u201cconservative catholics\u201d who has now given up talk radio and other major media news sources.<\/p>\n

As far as health care as a right, I heard what the conservative radio people said on that, but what I have never heard is \u201cwhat is the right thing to do.\u201d It seems as though health care has boiled down to money, is it a right, and power, not about people.<\/p>\n

Three years ago my 3 year old niece was diagnosed with cancer in one of her kidneys. The cancer was discovered during a routine annual check-up (one of those things that is not a \u201cright\u201d) by her pediatrician who noticed a small lump. Within 3 days she had surgery and then several months of chemo. She is now cancer free (Praise God!!). Because my brother\u2019s insurance covered annual physicals, they scheduled one which saved her life.<\/p>\n

I for one cannot agree with Father Orsi that \u201cThe only right that one human being owes to another is \u201cmedical care.\u201d This means care and treatment for an immediate need.\u201d Had they waited for the \u201cimmediate need\u201d it may have been too late.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
