Mary\u2019s Aggies detect somebody blunting Rome\u2019s message to Obama.<\/a> I think, on the contrary, that the language simply broadens the point to include a reference to the new encyclical *and* to include not just the defense of human life, but the right of conscientious objectors to opt out of being forced to participate in abortion, contraception and things contrary to their conscience. One of the things I\u2019m please about is Obama\u2019s willingness to listen to this point and (judging from his words so far) to respect it.<\/p>\n

Of course, I remain a \u201cwatch what they do, not what they say\u201d guy. But it\u2019s a start and should be acknowledged as such.<\/p>\n
