I\u2019ve been trying to explain to my girlfriend how a contraceptive culture leads to an abortion-on-demand culture, which inevitably will lead to a euthanasia culture. She keeps telling me I\u2019m making slippery slope arguments and I hear a lot of \u201cNot necessarily\u201d, so I\u2019m thinking I maybe not articulating it very well. How would you explain the logical progression from contraceptives to a culture of death? Thanks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Given that our culture has *already* made the journey from contraception to euthanasia, it\u2019s a little late for your girlfriend to deny that it is going to happen. My argument would be, \u201cLook around, girl! It\u2019s here. It\u2019s a done deal. All that is necessary is shoring up the conquest in the remaining states or a Supreme Court ruling that imposes the same thing we have in Washington on the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
She needs to read \u201cIdeas Have Consequences\u201d. Yes, human actors can change their minds. But if they don\u2019t (and our culture gives little indication that it means to change its mind about the notion that the value of human life is to be measured by things like productivity, comfort, and convenience), then they will continue on in the direction their ideology tells them to march. Whether they will like what they find when they arrive at the terminus of their lemming-like march is another question.<\/p>\n
