pro-life<\/a>\u201c\u2013that would be the same Americans who voted for Obama.<\/p>\nI think such poll results probably indicate that most Americans think of themselves as Nice People, sort of like the person who says, \u201cHey! I\u2019m not bloodthirsty. I don\u2019t want to kill babies. But, of course, if a woman has, you know, a problem that she needs to take care of, I\u2019m not going to say it\u2019s wrong. Sometimes you have to do bad things in order for there to be a happy ending.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why I keep banging away at our deeply rooted consequentialism. Once the prolife movement embraces consequentialism when it comes to torture, it\u2019s game over. They\u2019ve given away the moral basis for opposition to abortion when they embrace the notion that you can do evil that good may come of it.<\/p>\n
