Selma was a remarkable moment in American history when Christian conscience and non-violence met racist brutality and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, overcame it. \u00a0Every blow struck against the marchers, like every lash across the back of Jesus, only wound up defeating the evil the devil hoped to inflict. \u00a0Commemorating it, like commemorating Good Friday, is a testimony to the power of the gospel to defeat the powers of sin and death with the love of Christ. \u00a0That\u2019s what Selma is about.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what Selma is not about. \u00a0Selma is not about \u201cabortion rights\u201d, MSNBC<\/a>. \u00a0If you are unclear on the concept, let me introduce you to Dr. Alveda King<\/a>, who points out that abortion has killed 55 million potential voters. \u00a0Her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who had just a little bit to do with the Selma March, said this about abortion:<\/p>\n \u201cI say today that we as Christians must press on, in the conviction that we are \u201ca colony of heaven,\u201d called to obey God rather than man. Small in number, we must remain big in commitment.
