As many of you know, I\u2019ve been doing a radio show called \u201cConnecting the Dots\u201d on Real Life Radio since January. RLR has been ironing out various technical kinks, getting funding ducks in a row, and (most importantly) waiting for the new bishop of Lexington, KY to get settled in and a good working arrangement with his blessing. \u00a0Those things are now in working order, so now RLR is making its big public announcement and is ready to march into the world:<\/p>\n

New Catholic Media Outlet to focus on Relational Evangelization
\nReal Life Radio, a US based Catholic media organization, has launched a new network of original
\nprograms delivered via mobile streaming apps. The new network features programs from established\u00a0authors, bloggers, speakers and media professionals from across the United States who have joined\u00a0efforts to focus on one main directive, Relational Evangelization.<\/p>\n

Leo Brown, Real Life Radio\u2019s GM and Executive Director has this to say, \u201cStats are staggering when you\u00a0see the amount of bleeding in our churches. According to CARA, Georgetown University\u2019s Center for\u00a0Applied Research in the Apostolate, 90% of RCIA converts are gone within their first year in the Church.\u00a0Matthew Kelly, author of Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic<\/em><\/a>, suggests that less than 7% of Catholics who\u00a0regularly attend mass are engaged in their faith. And this is after another alarming chart that shows\u00a0mass attendance as low as 17% on some weekends in the US. To me, this is a tragedy. It clearly says that\u00a0something needs to be done. This is about bringing the joy of the Gospel directly to people on the\u00a0devices that they use to connect to the world as they move through their day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Real Life Radio\u2019s approach is clear. It\u2019s evangelization to the disengaged and disconnected Catholics who\u00a0at least still make it to mass at some point in the year. Real Life Radio\u2019s ethic is to preach, not to the\u00a0Choir, but to the Narthex (the gathering area in the entrance of the Church which was historically the\u00a0area where those converting to the Catholic faith we\u2019re taught about the Church as they continued their\u00a0conversion process). This is done with a focus on topical, cultural and relationship issues all with an\u00a0uncompromising filter of an authentically Catholic worldview.<\/p>\n

Real Life Radio\u2019s accessibility is new as well. The network content is generated by show hosts from
\nacross the US and then delivered through streaming on both the Real Life Radio website and the Real\u00a0Life Radio mobile apps for iPhone and Android. Eventually, as the community platforms grow, Real Life\u00a0Radio will deliver unique and localized content to individual communities through geo-location services\u00a0in web browsers and mobile devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all very exciting and emerging\u201d, says Brown. \u201cWith this platform we have effectively managed to\u00a0eliminate the two biggest hurdles to the growth of Catholic media, geography and cost. Typical\u00a0terrestrial stations can range upwards of tens of millions of dollars; that is, if you can find one available\u00a0that has any audience potential. Streaming, podcasting and mobile platforming can go anywhere and\u00a0cost pennies comparatively. This is an amazing opportunity we\u2019ve been given.\u201d<\/p>\n
