{"id":93888,"date":"2015-10-09T00:10:25","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T07:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/?p=93888"},"modified":"2015-09-14T08:21:10","modified_gmt":"2015-09-14T15:21:10","slug":"a-presbyterian-writes-with-some-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/2015\/10\/a-presbyterian-writes-with-some-questions.html","title":{"rendered":"A Presbyterian Writes with Some Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>Sez he:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So I am a Presbyterian, but a bad one, and I have been reading the Orthodox Study Bible, and have taken the day to study Judith (I do weird things like this every now and then). \u00a0In reading about it, and doing some homework, I stumbled upon one of your<a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholiceducation.org\/en\/religion-and-philosophy\/apologetics\/5-myths-about-7-books.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> articles<\/a>\u00a0and thought it was truly fabulous, well argued and compelling.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Currently I have no intentions of converting to Catholicism or Orthodoxy, though at the moment, I would find a stronger argument for Orthodoxy than Catholicism if such an event were to ever take place in my life. \u00a0My faith walk has been that of a godless moralist (whatever that means) to an Evangelical. \u00a0But concerning Marian doctrines and Apostolic authority, I\u2019m a bit of an oddball in the conservative evangelical world. \u00a0What I want is to know Christ, His Truth and to love His Church well. \u00a0Currently, my work is in the area of prayer, church unity and evangelism\u2026 and my hopes are to one day see the Church more united than She presently is, so I read a lot across \u201cdenominational\u201d lines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Good for you!\u00a0 \u201cThat they may be one\u201d is the prayer of our Lord and we are called to seek the unity of the Church.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So my questions are\u2026 (1.) what books have you written that speak more to Catholic apologetics and\/or refute Evangelical ones?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are three that scratch where you itch:<\/p>\n<p>1. <em>By What Authority?:\u00a0 An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. <em>This is My Body: An Evangelical Discovers the Real Presence<\/em><\/p>\n<p>3. <em>Mary, Mother of the Son<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can get them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mark-shea.com\/books.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Or, if you prefer, you can click through that page to the Kindle versions of those books.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And (2.) do you have any resources that refute Orthodox positions (Papal Supremacy and differences in the canon in particular would be questions I\u2019m asking).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>1. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1882972546\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1882972546&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=marksheacom-20&amp;linkId=SICJ3PZES6HX37MM\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jesus, Peter, and the Keys<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0898707234\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0898707234&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=marksheacom-20&amp;linkId=5JA3EE2337KGBCFI\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Upon this Rock<\/em><\/a> by Stephen K. You might also want to take a look at John Paul II\u2019s encyclical <a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/john-paul-ii\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/hf_jp-ii_enc_25051995_ut-unum-sint.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Ut Unum Sint<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not up on indepth discussions of the difference in canon between East and West, but it
