Dear fellow Canadians,<\/p>\n
The Federal election is in less than 3 weeks! It is only my opinion, but I think it would be a good idea at this time to pray for our beautiful country. Since voting day this year happens to be exactly one week after our Thanksgiving Holiday, let\u2019s remember the blessings that God has bestowed on us, and ask His help in obtaining the best possible outcome.<\/p>\n
To my fellow Catholics, I would even suggest: Why not a novena to St-Joseph, who was chosen as early as the 17th<\/sup> century, by Saint Mgr. de Laval, as the Patron Saint of Canada? Below is a prayer that I have tried to write for this purpose, and I would suggest to try to say this prayer on each of the 9 days preceding voting day (beginning on the Saturday before Thanksgiving), followed by the Lord\u2019s Prayer, and\/or one decade or all of a Rosary, whatever you are comfortable with.<\/p>\n
I am not writing this on behalf of any organization, religious or not, or any political party. I am just a concerned citizen of Canada who happens to be a Catholic.<\/p>\n
Prayer to St. Joseph<\/p>\n
For a blessing on this year\u2019s Federal Elections<\/p>\n
O Saint Joseph, loving father, faithful guardian of Jesus and spouse of the Mother of God, we pray you to remind God the Father of all the love He has shown for us in offering up the death and resurrection of His Son to give us life.<\/p>\n
Our beautiful country, Canada, has been consecrated to you from its very beginnings. Just as Mary and Jesus recognized in you the protector given to them by the Father, so too we are placing ourselves under your protection.<\/p>\n
We humbly ask you to intercede through the power of Jesus, and obtain for us from the eternal Father the grace to choose<\/p>\n
the best possible team of men and women to lead our country,<\/p>\n
men and women who will be true leaders,<\/p>\n
who are not going to be in government for their own ego, personal advantage, or agenda, but who are going to see themselves as servants of society<\/p>\n
and will focus on the common good,<\/p>\n
while working as wise stewards of the riches of our country,<\/p>\n
in harmony with God\u2019s design.<\/p>\n
Amen<\/p>\n
I would also ask that you help circulate this prayer. Please consider sending it to 10 people, asking each of them to forward it to 10 more people. There would soon be thousands of Catholics and Christians praying for the outcome of those elections.<\/p>\n
And\u2026 Please take the time to vote! Even if you are among those who think that your one vote cannot make much difference. Just over 1\/3 of the Canadians eligible to vote have not been voting in the last few elections. If most of them decided to express their opinions through their votes on October 19, change could happen. YOU hold the balance of power. On October 19, go out and VOTE! And bring your friends!<\/p>\n

Le jour du vote, cette ann\u00e9e, arrive exactement une semaine apr\u00e8s la F\u00eate de l\u2019Action de gr\u00e2ces. Remercions le Seigneur pour toutes les b\u00e9n\u00e9dictions qu\u2019Il a accord\u00e9es au Canada, et demandons-Lui de nous aider \u00e0 choisir la meilleure \u00e9quipe pour en assurer la direction.<\/p>\n
Si, comme moi, vous \u00eates catholiques, je vous sugg\u00e8rerais m\u00eame une neuvaine \u00e0 Saint Joseph, que Saint Mgr de Laval avait choisi, d\u00e8s le 17e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, comme Saint Patron du Canada. J\u2019ai os\u00e9 essayer de r\u00e9diger une pri\u00e8re, qui pourrait \u00eatre r\u00e9cit\u00e9e pendant les 9 jours pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant la journ\u00e9e du scrutin (donc \u00e0 partir du samedi du cong\u00e9 de l\u2019Action de Gr\u00e2ces), et suivie, si vous le d\u00e9sirez d\u2019un Notre P\u00e8re, ou encore d\u2019une dizaine de chapelet, ou m\u00eame d\u2019un chapelet entier.<\/p>\n
Je n\u2019\u00e9cris pas au nom d\u2019un organisme ou d\u2019un parti politique, mais simplement \u00e0 titre de citoyenne concern\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Notre beau pays, le Canada, vous \u00e9tait consacr\u00e9 d\u00e8s les tout d\u00e9buts de la colonie fran\u00e7aise. Tout comme Marie et J\u00e9sus reconnaissent en vous le protecteur auquel le P\u00e8re les avait confi\u00e9s, ainsi nous nous confions \u00e0 votre protection.<\/p>\n
Nous vous demandons humblement, par la toute puissance de J\u00e9sus, de nous obtenir du P\u00e8re \u00e9ternel la gr\u00e2ce de nous aider \u00e0 choisir la meilleure \u00e9quipe possible d\u2019hommes et de femmes pour diriger notre pays,<\/p>\n
des gens qui seront de v\u00e9ritables chefs de file,<\/p>\n
qui ne voudront pas gouverner pour simplement servir leurs propres int\u00e9r\u00eats, mais qui vont se consid\u00e9rer comme responsables de bien servir notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/p>\n
et la population enti\u00e8re,<\/p>\n
et en m\u00eame temps, sauront g\u00e9rer avec prudence les richesses du Canada,<\/p>\n
en harmonie avec les plans de Dieu.<\/p>\n
Pour finir, je vous inviterais \u00e0 faire circuler cette pri\u00e8re. Pensez \u00e0 l\u2019envoyer \u00e0 dix personnes, en leur demandant \u00e0 leur tour de la transmettre \u00e0 dix autres personnes. En peu de temps, des milliers de Catholiques et de Chr\u00e9tiens pourraient prier pour ces \u00e9lections.<\/p>\n
Et aussi\u00a0: S\u2019il-vous-pla\u00eet, prenez le temps d\u2019aller voter. Peut-\u00eatre, comme beaucoup de vos concitoyens, vous pensez \u00ab\u00a0Plus \u00e7a change, plus c\u2019est pareil!\u00a0\u00bb. Mais un peu plus du tiers des personnes qui ont le droit de voter ne le font pas. Si la plupart des ces gens exprimaient leurs opinions par leurs votes, des changements pourraient commencer \u00e0 se produire. La balance des pouvoirs est entre VOS mains. Le 19 octobre, ALLEZ VOTER. Et emmenez vos amis!<\/p>\n
