I was hoping that you could recommend a quality and qualitative book on Catholic Social Justice\/Doctrine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019m not much of an expert here, but I\u2019ll give you what little I have.\u00a0 Three books come to mind:<\/p>\n

1. The Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

2. Catholic Social Teaching: A New Synthesis<\/em><\/a> by Daniel Schwindt:<\/p>\n

3. Saints and Social Justice: A Guide to Changing the World<\/em><\/a> by Brandon Vogt:<\/p>\n

I ask as a teacher looking to update the 12th<\/sup> grade Religion curriculum at a large all-boys Catholic School located on Long Island, NY.<\/p>\n

About two years ago, we updated our 11th<\/sup> grade Religion curriculum, a Moral Philosophy class, to include a lot more Thomist Philosophy, which we then augment with some very cool resources \u2013 A Man for All Seasons<\/em><\/a> (Richard Bolt), Man\u2019s Search for Meaning<\/em><\/a> (Viktor Frankl), and The Complete\u00a0Stories of Flannery O\u2019Connor<\/em><\/a>. (the changes have been amazing!!!)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Excellent!<\/p>\n

Last year, we started the process of revamping the 12th<\/sup> grade course.\u00a0 We have determined that we want the course to be two parts.\u00a0 Part I will be apologetics using Dr. Peter Kreeft\u2019s Because God is Real:\u00a016 Questions One Answer<\/em><\/a> as a base. And Part II will be Catholic Social Justice.\u00a0 The only problem is that we have struggled to find a quality and qualitative Social Justice resource that is both readable for our students and somewhat non-political.<\/p>\n

Hope those help.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I doubt it is possible to entirely avoid politics since Catholic Social Teaching tends to get read through our political categories.\u00a0 But what you *can<\/strong>* do is push back and insist on reading our political categories through Catholic Social Teaching, thus showing where they are are compatible with (and at odds with) the full-orbed teaching of the Church.<\/p>\n

I reach out to you because I actually found Dr. Peter Kreeft\u2019s Because God is Real<\/em>\u00a0on your recommendation.\u00a0 In one of your blog posts you mentioned Kreeft\u2019s book Fundamentals of Faith<\/em><\/a>, which I loved, but thought was a little too dense for our students \u2014 but that book led me to Because God is Real<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kreeft is always good.<\/p>\n

Any help you could give would be much appreciated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019m still learning this stuff myself (largely with the help of the Compendium.\u00a0 It\u2019s all biblical and common sense and all fits together very rationally.\u00a0 But our irrational political categories keep getting in the way.<\/p>\n
