I use to diligently vote republican because I was passionately pro-life.\u00a0<\/span>
This was before my husband left me and I became a member of the working poor.\u00a0<\/span>

Several of my poverty stricken friends have had abortions that they felt terrible having. It wasn\u2019t a callous act of violence because they didn\u2019t want to be inconvenienced. It was deemed the only choice that wouldn\u2019t lead to being completely destitute.<\/span>

For one it was because her pregnancies required bed rest and missing work would have caused her to be homeless.\u00a0<\/span>

For another it was because she was in an abusive marriage that she couldn\u2019t afford to leave and a pregnancy would prolong her financial dependence.\u00a0<\/span>

Socialized health care and child care, free university, maternity leave, and increase in minimum wage would prevent millions of abortions each year.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Actual Catholic prolife teaching takes people like this seriously and insists on creating a social safety net so that they are not forced into this position in desperation. \u00a0Anti-abortion-but-not-prolife American Conservatism doesn\u2019t care one whit about helping such people. \u00a0It only cares about blaming them for acting in desperation. \u00a0I will take seriously the somebody\u2019s claim to be prolife when they take seriously the kind of desperation described in this post.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
