What has happened is fairly simple: <\/p>\n

1. It\u2019s easier to focus on a simple idea (\u201cSave the babies!\u201d) than it is to focus on a more complex idea (\u201cProtect all human life from conception to natural death\u201d). <\/p>\n

2. The GOP discovered that it could pit the unborn *against* the rest of the Church\u2019s teaching and use the unborn as human shields for every culture of death priority they had that opposed the teaching of the Church. <\/p>\n

3. Instead of listening to the Church\u2019s whole teaching, millions of anti-abortion-but-not-prolife Catholics bought the idea that if you support \u201cliberal\u201d prolife ideas (end the death penalty, oppose torture, support a living wage, support state social safety nets for the poor, amnesty for immigrants, etc.) you were somehow ipso facto in favor of \u201cwatering down\u201d the Church\u2019s opposition to abortion.<\/p>\n

Result: Donald Trump and the enslavement of the prolife movement to a political party that takes everything from them and gives them nothing back. They dance to his tune, not he to their and spend ever more time and energy defending everything he says and does, not the unborn.<\/p>\n

Solution: Be more prolife, not less. Embrace the consistent life ethic of the Church instead of battling the Church. Then you have all the time in the world to fight abortion and don\u2019t need to waste it on enslavement to the GOP.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
