Will there never be an end to the Indian Wars?<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nNative Americans are the most screwed-over of all of America\u2019s screwed-over minorities.<\/p>\n<blockquote>It would seem that the white race alone received the divine command, to subdue and replenish the earth! for it is the only race that has obeyed it\u2014the only one that hunts out new and distant lands, and even a New world, to subdue and replenish\u2026. Three and a half centuries ago, this race, in obedience to the great command, arrived in the New world, and found new lands to subdue and replenish\u2026. The van of the Caucasian race now top the Rocky Mountains, and spread down to the shores of the Pacific. In a few years a great population will grow up there, luminous with the accumulated lights of European and American civilization\u2026. The Red race has disappeared from the Atlantic coast: the tribes that resisted civilization met extinction. This is a cause of lamentation with many. For my part, I cannot murmur at what seems to be the effect of divine law. I cannot repine that this Capitol has replaced the wigwam\u2014this Christian people, replaced the savages\u2014white matrons, the red squaws and such men as Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson, have taken the place of Powhattan, Opechonecanough, and other red men, howsoever respectable they may have been as savages. Civilization, or extinction, has been the fate of all people who have found themselves in the track of the advancing Whites, and civilization, always the preference of the Whites, has been pressed as an object, while extinction has followed as a consequence of its resistance. \u2013 Senator Thomas Hart Benton<\/p><\/blockquote>\nIf Manifest Destiny sounds like a flowery version of Lebensraum, that\u2019s because it is. America has at least started to come to terms with its legacy of slavery. It has barely even acknowledged its legacy of genocide and it still has no problem at all plowing right over the rights of Native peoples when it wants to for the thoroughly pagan reason that the strong do as they please and the weak suffer what they must.<\/p>\nChrist\u2019s Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.<\/p>\nAmerican Golden Rule: The one with the gold makes the rules.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Will there never be an end to the Indian Wars?
