The Governor of Maine, Paul LePage, self-identifies as a \u201cprolife\u201d Republican. Thing is, when you are actually pro-life, you do not go around announcing that you are \u201cat war\u201d with \u201cpeople of color\u201d or declare them, en masse<\/em>, \u201cthe enemy\u201d who need to be killed. <\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When the state starts talking about citizens, not as citizens, but as \u201cthe enemy\u201d and as a subject population that needs killin\u2019, that\u2019s, you know, bad. It\u2019s also not \u201cpro-life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Also, when a lawmaker criticizes you for saying such a stupid thing (and does not, with tremendous self-restraint, call you a racist), you do not, as a prolifer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2016\/08\/27\/maine-governor-under-fire-after-leaving-obscene-voicemail.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fantasize publicly about murdering that lawmaker in cold blood<\/a>. Nor do you leave messages like this on his phone:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G56aIx5fg7o\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/2016\/08\/some-time-back-i-wrote-a-little-piece-on-swearing-and-vulgarity.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Apropos my piece the other day on swearing and profanity<\/a>, I do not have the vapors over the Governor\u2019s use of profanity. People talk that way when they get angry. The issue is, rather, was there any justification for his anger? <\/p>\n<p>The answer to that is, \u201cNo.\u201d The lawmaker was perfectly justified in his criticism. And the governor was, each time he opened his trap, way the hell out of line.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to Stream\u2019s Stephen Herreid calling for his fainting couch as yet another public Catholic uses Bad Words. Of course, all may be excused because the Guv\u2019s not one of those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/2016\/08\/istandwithsimchafisher.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">awful faithfully married women with ten kids<\/a>, but a good solid Republican on his <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_LePage#Personal_life\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">standard issue second wife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor of Maine, Paul LePage, self-identifies as a \u201cprolife\u201d Republican.
