Now it\u2019s quite possible that the bishops will acknowledge, as a fait accompli<\/em>, that Caesar has decided to pretend that changing civil law and\u00a0civil contracts between two homosexuals constitutes \u201cmarriage\u201d. \u00a0The Church can\u2019t tell Caesar what to do if Caesar doesn\u2019t feel like doing it. \u00a0So the Church may well say, \u201cWelp, that\u2019s what Caesar has chosen to do and we will have to keep that legal reality in mind as we move forward from here.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not \u201cchanging the teaching\u201d any more than recognizing that Caesar\u2019s tax increase will mean Catholic school buses will cost more to run. \u00a0It\u2019s \u201cprudently facing reality\u201d.<\/p>\n

Changing the teaching means saying \u201cWe were wrong. \u00a0A union between between two people of the same sex has the character of marriage and, in fact, two people of the same sex can be the matter of the sacrament of marriage.\u201d And that, Senator Kaine, will only happen on the day the Church begins baptizing people in Coca Cola and consecrating Twinkies and 7 UP in the sacrament of the Eucharist.<\/p>\n

The Church did not establish the sacraments. \u00a0They are not her property to do whatever the hell she wants with. \u00a0She cannot change the matter of the sacraments to suit the Democratic party platform. \u00a0His bishop told him as much.<\/a><\/p>\n

Catholic Answers<\/a> has remarks along these lines (and more) for Senator Kaine to ignore, as is the custom of politicized American Catholic pols winning one for the team. \u00a0But we should not ignore them.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
