\nFor seven innings, they were beautiful.
\nFor seven innings, they ruled the game.
\nFor seven innings the cubs whistled \u201cWhat Curse?\u201d
\nand Go Cubs Go, they sang\u2026
\nFor seven innings the Cubs played
\nand silenced the whole Tribe
\nThe Eighth inning however,
\nthings got clever. It had a different vibe.
\nBatters came, the Indians rallied
\nand now the score was tied.
\nIt even started raining\u2026
\nSurely God was on Chicago\u2019s side.
\nThey held on through the ninth
\nand all the nation held its breath
\nwould this be a moment of almost pure joy?
\nWould this be the curse\u2019s death?
\nBut the tarp is on the field
\nand the game will be delayed.
\nThe fans standing in the streets of Chicago,
\nlike their counters in Cleveland,
\nIgnored the weather. They stayed.
\nEveryone who loves baseball
\nknows the game can break your heart.
\nLoving something means being willing to suffer.
\nSo we\u2019ll wait, but we want the game to restart.
\nAt 12:12 they restarted.
\nAnd Shaw looked shaky at first
\nWould 2016 be the greatest season for the Cubs?
\nOr would it be the worst.
\nDavis caught a long fly ball,
\nbut the runner did advance.
\nThe Pitcher set with Rizzo at bat
\nand a meeting before the dance.
\nA walk to face Zorbrist
\nwho was 0 for 4
\nand Cub fans bit their nails.
\nTwo men on and only one out.
\nZorbrist didn\u2019t fail.
\nOne out, two runs and bases loaded,
\nA pitching change at hand.
\nWho would take the title after 179 games,
\nThe Cubbies or Cleveland?
\nHeyward struck out not quite swinging
\nBaez fell behind in the count.
\nWith three bases filled,they could pad the lead
\nif the second baseman hadn\u2019t popped out.
\nEdwards Jr. took the mound
\nfor the bottom of the tenth
\nThree outs to glory or goatville
\nbaseball at its zenith.
\nThe first man down, Ramirez tried to crush it,
\nand would be marked a 6-3.
\nIf you were scoring at home, you had one out to go
\nto watch a moment of perfect beauty.
\nBut the Cubbies always make it interesting,
\nand Jr. fell behind in the count.
\nThe catcher walked out to settle him.
\nDon\u2019t think about the game, just the out.
\nA walk brought the tieing run to the plate
\nand Guyer they gave second without a fight.
\nDavis hit and a run scored
\nand the game went on deeper in the night.
\nAnd just like that, from third to first,
\nThe final out was made.
\nCubs Win Cubs Win Cubs Win Cubs Win
\nand 2016 as a year, was saved!<\/p>\n
