The President-elect said that he would allow the Supreme Court\u2019s decision on same-sex marriage to stand because \u201cit\u2019s law.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was settled in the Supreme Court,\u201d he told Stahl. \u201cI mean it\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
It\u2019s done. The Supreme Court settled it, says the Dear Leader. So strike gay \u201cmarriage\u201d from the five non-negotiables, Catholic supporters, cuz that\u2019s toast.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, as he did in the debates, he never gets around to saying he will do anything about Roe (cuz he won\u2019t, cuz he doesn\u2019t care about it). He merely meanders around a hypothetical of what could happen if it ever went away:<\/p>\n
\u201cAbortion, if it were ever overturned, it would go back to the states,\u201d he told CBS News\u2019 Lesley Stahl in an interview on \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, but then some women won\u2019t be able to get an abortion,\u201d Stahl replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, well, they\u2019ll perhaps have to go\u2014they\u2019ll have to go to another state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s OK?\u201d Stahl asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIt\u2019s got a long way to go, just so you understand. That has a long, long way to go.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u201cWhat,\u201d you may ask, \u201cis the difference between \u2018It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it\u2019s done\u2019 for a gay marriage ruling a couple of years old and an abortion ruling that has been (in words of Republican appointee John Roberts) \u2018settled law\u2019 for 43 years and only underscored by other rulings from other Republican appointees?\u201d<\/p>\n
The answer is, \u201cNothing. Not a damn thing.\u201d And should the time come, abortion will not occupy his thoughts in the slightest.<\/p>\n
For this guy, sacrilege was committed\u2013and is now ardently defended\u2013by the anti-abortion-but-not-prolife movement.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, his real interest and focus is on the agenda being promoted by his Chief Strategist, an alt-Right racist and anti-Catholic. That\u2019s where the energy and time will go.<\/p>\n
