The net, concrete result of a monomaniac focus on abortion to the exclusion of the rest of the Church\u2019s prolife teaching is not gains on stopping abortion. It is \u201cprolife\u201d approval for every culture of death priority the Trumpkinized Right wants to pursue.<\/a><\/p>\n

And so, post-election we hear (briefly) all the rhetoric about \u201cholding their feet to the fire\u201d. But this is replaced almost instantly by a zealous willingness to defend everything Trump does. That\u2019s why prolife leadership has been stone silent (and the rank and file has already started to defend and glorify) the choice of anti-Catholic<\/a>, Alt Right racist Steve Bannon as Trump\u2019s Chief Strategist. [UPDATE: I stand corrected. Fr. Frank Pavone is *thrilled* that an Alt Right Racist is Trump\u2019s Chief Strategist.]<\/a><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s radical Left Wing Journal National Review<\/em> on the Alt Right and the significance of this choice:<\/p>\n

But the alt-right is not a \u201cfabrication\u201d of the media. The alt-right is a hodgepodge of philosophies that, at their heart, reject the fundamental principle that \u201call men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.\u201d<\/a> The alt-right embraces an ethno-nationalism that has its counterparts in the worst of the European far-right: Golden Dawn in Greece, or Hungary\u2019s Jobbik. (It\u2019s no coincidence that Bannon spent time this summer praising \u201cthe women of the Le Pen family\u201d on London radio, referring to the head of France\u2019s National Front and her niece, a FN member of the French Parliament.) And while this by no means excuses smashing shop windows to protest a legitimate election result, as rioters spent the weekend doing in the Pacific Northwest, it\u2019s also the case that not every Trump detractor is as devoid of cerebral matter as Lena Dunham. If ethnic and religious minorities are worried, it\u2019s in part because Donald Trump and his intimates have spent the last several months winking at one of the ugliest political movements in America\u2019s recent history.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Any prolife movement worth its salt should be protesting this man\u2019s appointment and everything it signifies. But we hear nothing in protest and, in fact, are already hearing the evolving rhetoric of defenses of the Alt Right racism from the \u201cprolife\u201d Right. <\/p>\n

This is how it will always go. \u201cProlife\u201d Trump supporters will, again and again, divert their time, energy, and credibility away from defenses of the unborn to defenses of Alt Right racist filth or whatever else Trump actually cares about. The unborn will be used, again and again, as human shields for Trump\u2019s real passions just as they were when offered in sacrilege by prolife leadership in a Trump campaign ad by a Catholic priest that was sharply condemned by his bishop. The orthodox bishop, not the sacrilegious Trumpkinized Conservative Folk Hero, will be damned by the \u201cprolife\u201d Catholic. \u201cProlife\u201d Trumpkins will dance to his tune, not he to theirs. Every time. Every. Damn. Time.<\/p>\n

Or they could stop all this nonsense, listen to the Church\u2019s whole teaching (which includes this truth)<\/a>:<\/p>\n

We cannot truly call on God, the Father of all, if we refuse to treat in a brotherly way any man, created as he is in the image of God. Man\u2019s relation to God the Father and his relation to men his brothers are so linked together that Scripture says: \u201cHe who does not love does not know God\u201d (1 John 4:8).<\/p>\n

No foundation therefore remains for any theory or practice that leads to discrimination between man and man or people and people, so far as their human dignity and the rights flowing from it are concerned.<\/p>\n

The Church reproves, as foreign to the mind of Christ, any discrimination against men or harassment of them because of their race, color, condition of life, or religion. On the contrary, following in the footsteps of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, this sacred synod ardently implores the Christian faithful to \u201cmaintain good fellowship among the nations\u201d (1 Peter 2:12), and, if possible, to live for their part in peace with all men, so that they may truly be sons of the Father who is in heaven.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Be more prolife, not less. \u00a0Oppose abortion *and* racism. \u00a0Stop letting charlatans use the unborn as human shields for their real, anti-life, agendas.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
