MacDonald is a fascinating man. \u00a0C.S. Lewis said he never wrote a book that was not influenced by him. \u00a0He was raised in the Scottish Calvinist tradition, but deeply rejected it in favor of, well, Jesus. \u00a0He was never a Catholic, but was so deeply holy and good<\/em> a man that an awful lot of the Holy Spirit filled him with an awful lot of Catholic imagination. \u00a0Most interesting to me is the way in which a curious Marian piety filled his heart though his mind never articulated it as such. \u00a0Every time he depicts God or the holy, it is *always* in feminine terms. I\u2019m re-reading At the Back of the North Wind<\/a><\/em> right now. \u00a0Such a beautiful piece of work. \u00a0His Princess<\/a> stories<\/a> are a joy too, not to mention Phantastes<\/a><\/em>, the book that baptized Lewis\u2019 imagination and showed him holiness for the first time. \u00a0And don\u2019t forget the The Wise Woman<\/em>.<\/p>\n
