He pointed to rampant pornography, illegal drugs use and the occult. \u201cWhere there is demonic activity, there is always an entry point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last October, Father Lampert met in Rome with the International Association of Exorcists, a group of 400 Catholic leaders and priests. It is a support group that meets every other year. According to him, group members agree that there is a great need for more exorcists.<\/p>\n<p>Actual demonic possessions are rare, however, Father Lampert explained. \u201cI\u2019ve only seen three possessions in the last three years, but there is also infestation, vexation and obsession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that demonic infestation happens in places where things might move and there are loud noises. With vexation, a person is physically attacked and might have marks such as bruises, bites or scratches. Demonic obsession involves mental attacks, such as persistent thoughts of evil racing through one\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1439931607151-0\" class=\"ad-inline\" data-google-query-id=\"CNTWo9fQ8NICFch8YgodztkEBQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/1319756\/CNA_Article_1_0__container__\">\u201cIn possessions,\u201d Father Lampert said, \u201cI have seen eyes rolled back in the head, throwing out obscenities, bodily contortions, foul odors, temperatures drop in the room, and I\u2019ve witnessed someone levitating.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>The general response to this is \u201cBut this is 2017!\u201d (which is like saying, \u201cBut this is Wednesday the 29th!\u201d). \u00a0Also something about \u201cSCIENCE!\u201d which apparently means, \u201cYou either imagined or are lying about the levitation you saw.\u201d \u00a0And, of course, there is the appeal to getting a mental health professional since Catholics are exceedingly stupid and it never occurs to them to suppose that the first explanation for strange behavior is mental illness. \u00a0Oh, wait! \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/posteverything\/wp\/2016\/07\/01\/as-a-psychiatrist-i-diagnose-mental-illness-and-sometimes-demonic-possession\/?utm_term=.1543f667e563\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">It turns out the Church alway consults mental health professionals before rushing in to do exorcisms.<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I\u2019m not a bit surprised the demonic is on the rise. \u00a0We have \u00a0culture that has de-Christianized and tried to live in a house swept clean and empty. \u00a0Supernature abhors a vacuum.<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interesting piece over at CNA: These sorts of stories tend to irk atheists, who reject them without trial since they have a dogma against them. \u00a0Meanwhile: \u201cThe problem isn\u2019t that the devil has upped his game, but more people are willing to play it,\u201d Father Lampert said.
