\nBeelzebub was presiding over the
\nConvention of demons he had
\nGathered to strategize about what
\nNew techniques they could use to<\/p>\nContinue the entrapment of humanity;
\nThey reviewed the success of spectator
\nSports and Budweiser in sabotaging
\nClass consciousness and solidarity among<\/p>\n
Those who might otherwise be in the
\nStreets protesting and throwing wrenches
\nIn the cogs of the mill that continues crushing
\nThe bones of the favela dwellers, but there<\/p>\n
Seemed to be a new danger; the younger
\nPeople were less susceptible to celebrity
\nCulture and mind-numbing couch vegetation;
\nThey were starting to get empowered and<\/p>\n
Discover new tribes in the world-wide web;
\nIt was like they were building a tower to
\nHeaven together and if they harnessed
\nEnough synergy, they might gain the<\/p>\n
Trust required to walk out of the mill
\nAnd start a new way of life in the meadows
\nBeyond the dutiful worries that keeps
\nThe gears in the motion; \u201cI\u2019ve got a plan!\u201d<\/p>\n
And a hush fell over the demon crowd
\nAs everyone looked to see where the new
\nVoice was coming from; a young fellow
\nWith a smirk from ear to ear \u2014 he said,<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to convince them that their
\nProblems are caused by individual
\nPeople who must be canceled.
\nThey can have names like Karen<\/p>\n
Or Chad or Becky and when they
\nSay terrible things that make them
\nLook terrible despite whatever good
\nThings they might have otherwise done,<\/p>\n
Despite whatever underlying traumas
\nOr anxieties they carry that might have
\nCompelled them to behave monstrously
\nLike the kid with Tourette\u2019s who can\u2019t stop<\/p>\n
Cussing and shrieking, instead of correcting
\nThem through a community that treats them
\nLike family and has built up trust over time
\nSo they are able to change and grow and<\/p>\n
Feel loved by those who care enough about
\nThem to help them let go of their poison,
\nWe can recruit anonymous strangers from
\nEvery corner of the Internet to drag them<\/p>\n
And make sure that they will never have
\nA job again or go to college or have anyone
\nSwipe right for them because googling
\nTheir name will make it clear that they are<\/p>\n
Outside the bounds of acceptable humanity;
\nThe brilliant thing about this is once Chad
\nAnd Becky become a thing, then everyone
\nWill secretly worry whether they are acting<\/p>\n
Like Becky and Chad and that will devour
\nEnergy that could have been spent building
\nBarricades and planting vegetables for local
\nRefugees to eat. They will do research on how<\/p>\n
To speak with perfect rhetoric so that nobody
\nWill ever drag them and they will build
\nTheir lives around trainings in correct thinking
\nInstead of going to protests. And all of them<\/p>\n
Will go to battle in a world they create where
\nOnly words and memes exist and that
\nWill become the real world so that the world
\nFilled with pollution and cops shooting children<\/p>\n
And single moms gasping for air who aren\u2019t
\nEven trying to instagram will continue to
\nSlowly asphyxiate while the winds get fiercer
\nAnd the sun gets hotter and sidewalk strangers<\/p>\n
Are even more menacing than they ever were
\nBefore and the other side is even more
\nIncomprehensible than it ever was before;
\nIsn\u2019t this the most ingenious plan for stopping humanity?\u201d<\/p>\n
A full minute passed without any demon
\nSpeaking; some were clearly furious at having
\nBeen bested by this Johnny come lately
\nWho hadn\u2019t paid his dues in years of suppressing<\/p>\n
Revolution and undermining humanity\u2019s potential
\nFor kindness. But his plan seemed entirely flawless
\nExcept for one issue that started to flicker in the
\nMind of an old demon who got up the nerve to<\/p>\n
Give voice to it: \u201cWhat if they delete Twitter?\u201d
\nHe asked with complete sincerity, not seeking
\nConflict. Then Beelzebub himself answered:
