Italian newspapers\u00a0suggest that she was trying to get to Europe\u00a0and to find a trainer there, so she\u00a0could compete\u00a0at the Olympics. May she be granted with eternal\u00a0peace.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing conflict in Kashmir has resulted in thousands of people dead and wounded, and according to doctors, the stress related to the conflict has had a <a href=\"http:\/\/globalpressinstitute.org\/global-news\/asia\/india\/stress-related-disorders-lead-infertility-kashmir\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">negative impact on the fertility of women in the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/2012-08-20\/india\/33286862_1_muslim-enrolment-muslim-girls-muslim-community\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">enrollment of Muslim girls in primary schools in India is surging<\/a>, with an increase of 33% against an average increase of 5% of all girls enrolling in primary school in the 2012-2013 school year.<\/p>\n<p>Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (LBT) women have been part of the women\u2019s movement in Indonesia in over a decade, but recently the country has seen a <a href=\"http:\/\/womensenews.org\/story\/lesbian-and-transgender\/120820\/indonesian-lbt-women-exposed-backlash\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rise in violence and harassment\u00a0aimed at\u00a0LBT women<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Niger, cash grants replace the traditional food aid to the poorest families. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/2012\/08\/cash-grants-replace-food-aid-for-niger-families-in-need\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">99% of the beneficiaries of the money are women<\/a>, who are then in turn responsible in determining where the money should be spend.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Saudi columnist Mohammad Al Shaikh posted a <a href=\"http:\/\/gulfnews.com\/news\/gulf\/saudi-arabia\/saudi-blogger-s-barb-at-women-sparks-furore-1.1064142\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">remark on Saudi women and prostitution in\u00a0a foreign country<\/a> on Twitter, in a debate on female unemployment and the status of women. Image by Cedric Houin\/National Geographic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In Australia many Muslim women, who leave their husbands, find themselves in debt, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/news\/nation\/muslim-women-walk-from-husband-to-debt\/story-e6frg6nf-1226455271022\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">some institutions (Centrelink)\u00a0do not believe that truly have left their husbands<\/a>, and are just concealing their partners for financial support.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of women and children flocked to hospitals in Chennai, India, after a rumour spreaded that <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/chennai\/Rumours-over-mehendi-create-panic-in-Chennai\/articleshow\/15578887.cms\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">two women had lost their limbs after applying mehendi<\/a> via a text message that went viral, and turned out to be, not surprisingly, a hoax. Mehendi is applied on the hands and\/or feet of women during festive occasions, such as the\u00a0Eid.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist and author Fariba Nawa profiles her friend <a href=\"http:\/\/womensenews.org\/story\/our-daily-lives\/120821\/writer-grieves-one-afghanistans-lost-women\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Roya Hamid, an Afghan artist<\/a>, who died earlier this year due to complications surrounding childbirth. She was in her 30s.<\/p>\n<p>A judge in the UK has said that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/religion\/9480374\/Judge-attacks-forced-marriage-that-put-disabled-woman-at-risk.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">marriage of a disabled Bangladeshi\u00a0woman to her cousin should be annulled<\/a>, as the woman does not understand the concept of marriage and is not able to consent to sex.<\/p>\n<p>Controversial Egyptian tv channel <em>Maria TV<\/em> has been on air for over a month now, tackling diverse topics such as infidelity and beauty, but still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.de\/dw\/article\/0,,16180885,00.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">many Egyptians find the channel offensive<\/a>, but for different reasons.<\/p>\n<p>A Canadian Muslim woman has been fired from her job,<a href=\"http:\/\/calgary.ctvnews.ca\/former-spa-employee-says-she-lost-her-job-over-her-religious-head-covering-1.919260\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> after she started to wear hijab to work<\/a>. Even though, she took the hijab off during work hours, as it was said to her that the head scarf was not part of the uniform, she still got dismissed a mere two weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah is a Dutch-Somali girl, who was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rnw.nl\/africa\/article\/holiday-somalia-turns-nightmare-part-1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">forced to marry her much older relative<\/a> while on holiday in Somalia at age 16. She <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rnw.nl\/africa\/article\/holiday-somalia-turns-nightmare-part-2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">recently has escaped Somalia, and her marriage<\/a>, and is now living in a women\u2019s shelter in The Netherlands, where she is now planning her future.<\/p>\n<p>A top Malaysian lawyer encourages Muslim women to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/top-news\/pre-nups-protect-muslim-women-1.128281\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">sign\u00a0pre-nuptial agreements to safeguard their rights in marriage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And finally some Ramadan and Eid related news items: <em>Forbes<\/em> profiles Senegali Hadi, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/eliseknutsen\/2012\/08\/21\/hadis-expenses-the-economics-of-religious-feasts-in-senegal\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">she prepares for her Eid celebrations<\/a>, or\u00a0 Korit\u00e9 as it is generally referred to in Senegal. Women in a\u00a0remote fishing village in the Philippines have been getting together to learn more about Islam, and<a href=\"http:\/\/verafiles.org\/frontpage-sticky\/muslim-women-in-remote-basilan-town-help-foster-unity\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> strenghten the unity of the town by organizing community iftars<\/a>\u00a0during the month of Ramadan. In Kolkata, India, <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/2012-08-21\/kolkata\/33302068_1_eid-prayers-muslim-women-namaz\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Muslim women have broken an age-old barrier<\/a>\u00a0by joining the men in their outdoor Eid prayers, something that is recommended in Islam, but was traditionally not accepted.
