On this day in 1859, Charles Darwin<\/a> published his seminal work, On the Origin of Species<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\n<p>Obviously the idea for what we call <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Evolution\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">evolution<\/a> was in the air. If you listen to the clip above you may notice he credits <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfred_Russel_Wallace\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Alfred Russel Wallace<\/a> with coming to nearly identical conclusions at roughly the same time.<\/p>\n<p>But this idea floating in the air contained within it a revolution. Its consequences in biological studies is incalculable.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m mostly concerned with the religious and spiritual consequences. Less, I hasten to say, with how it implicitly challenges the origin myths of all religions.
