The first of these pointed me to an Enneagram test. Of the currently faddish tests, this is one I rather enjoy the most.

Mainly, I have to admit, because it has such mysterious origins.

I gather in general people claim it is some sort of Sufi typology. Although near as I can tell the first published reference goes no further back than the independent spiritual teacher Gurdjeiff. Another of that crop of independent spiritual teachers Oscar Ichazo claimed an independent access to the system. And it is actually through Claudio Naranjo who studied for a time with Ichazo that the system started to be popularized in the West.

Can’t seem to find any sources farther back.

I first heard of this as a “developed” system through the work of Helen Palmer, who had become quite the rage among Jesuits when I was at the Graduate Theological Union.

I do find it interesting that first my Zen teacher and then a dear Zen colleague both who have at least passing interests in this system told me I was a nine.

This was my first attempt at taking a test for my Enneagram type. And it is intriguing I indeed did come up a nine. I don’t get what the sexual thing is, but I’m pretty sure I like it…

Main Type

Overall Self

Take Free Enneagram Personality Test

Scale (|||||||%) results:

Enneagram Test Results

Type 1

Perfectionism

||||||||||

34%

Type 2

Helpfulness

||||||||||||||||

62%

Type 3

Image Focus

||||||||||||||||

62%

Type 4

Hypersensitivity

||||||||||

38%

Type 5

Detachment

||||||||||

38%

Type 6

Anxiety

||||||||||

34%

Type 7

Adventurousness

||||||||||||

46%

Type 8

Aggressiveness

||||||||||||||||

62%

Type 9

Calmness

||||||||||||||||

70%

Your main type is 9
Your variant is sexual

 Take Free Enneagram Personality Test

My recent posting dancing off of a reference to a Myers Briggs typology produced a couple of responses, both involving pointers to other online tests.
