<\/a>According to Wikipedia the oldest known temple devoted to the Roman deity Venus<\/a> was established on this day in 293 b.c.e.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Venus is the goddess of love, beauty and fertility.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Her story and that of the Greek Aphrodite<\/a> are now completely intertwined.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As a Unitarian Universalist I am sympathetic to this syncretistic inclination, and would throw in all goddesses of love, including my favorites Mary<\/a> and Guanyin.<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And I suggest today as an appropriate moment to stop and contemplate this most amazing of human emotions, love. And, buried within it, deep in the heart of this oh so human feeling, something more\u2026<\/div>\n

As someone inclined to the rational it sometimes takes an overwhelming emotional experience to remind me reason is a tool and not reality itself.<\/div>\n

Now emotions are not reality itself, either.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Early on my spiritual journeys I stumbled on the Hindu teacher Ramakrishna<\/a> and his rather astonishing band of followers. I was particularly taken, as readers of this blog might recall, with his English admirers.<\/div>\n
