Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for literature, in 1913.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Of particular interest to me is how following his father, a leader of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dcwi.com\/%7Euuf\/Sermons\/012305.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Brahmo Samaj<\/a><span style=\"font-family:arial\">, a Hindu-reform movement inspired in part by both English and American Unitarianism, Tagore would be closely associated with this spiritual movement for the whole of his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(By the bye, as frequent visitors to this blog probably know, I\u2019m quite fond of Wikipedia, using it frequently as a first resource. I would add I rarely rely upon it as a final one. There is little doubt one needs to be cautious when using it. One way I\u2019ve found to weigh any particular article\u2019s veracity is to look at the \u201cdiscussion\u201d section. The more heated the more wary I become. The Wikipedia article on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brahmo_Samaj\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Brahmo Samaj<\/a> is a fascinating example of the difficulties with this ubiquitous online resource, and how some due diligence is always called for. Just like in life, I suspect\u2026)<br> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family:arial\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family:arial\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">from the <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Gitanjali<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family:arial\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">On the day when the lotus bloomed, alas, my mind was straying,<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">and I knew it not.<span> <\/span>My basket was empty and the flower remained<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">unheeded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">Only now and again a sadness fell upon me, and I started up from<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">my dream and felt a sweet class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">for its completion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">I knew not then that it was so near, that it was mine, and that<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">this perfect sweetness had blossomed in the depth of my own<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic\">\n<\/p><p hours pass by on the<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family: arial\">shore\u2013Alas for me!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family: arial\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family: arial\">\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style: italic;font-family: arial\">The spring has done its flowering and taken leave.<span> <\/span>And now with<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;font-style:
