* this wonderful word \u201creason\u201d is best unpacked a bit. Not only, although certainly inclusive of, the quest for knowledge; reason can stand for wisdom. And here I believe it does. In this spirit an early translation of the Teh in <\/em>Tao Teh Ching, which today is variously rendered \u201cway,\u201d \u201cvirtue,\u201d or \u201cpower,\u201d was \u201creason.\u201d One, I suspect, can find a gloss for the Buddhist<\/a> term \u201cmind\u201d here, as well.<\/em><\/div>\n
