It has come time for me to admit I\u2019m not up to the trip to India. My back has been paining me for three months and I don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do if I suffered a herniation in Bodhgaya. I\u2019ve set up an appointment with my primary physician and expect a series of referrals which will eat up some significant part of the conclusion of my sabbatical. Although I hope to indulge a couple of smaller adventures before it all ends.<\/p>\n

India wasn\u2019t the first or even the second thing I\u2019d thought of doing while on sabbatical. Still, it was shaping up to be one of the grand adventures of my life. While doors are not completely closed, it is hard to see how I\u2019ll now ever go there.<\/p>\n

My major personal goal now is addressing my weight which has to be a major contributing factor to my back problems. All very humiliating, and who knows, allows other doors to open\u2026<\/p>\n

Things continue at a full rush here.<\/p>\n

Today is one of my last classes at Meadville. We\u2019ll be discussing \u201cengaged Buddhism\u201d and how this emergent school might inform Unitarian Universalist concerns for social justice. Robert Althouse, a Zen priest and social justice activist will visit for some part of the class, make his own presentation, and hopefully stir up the conversation.<\/p>\n

The sands are shifting and it makes for an interesting dance\u2026<\/p>\n
