One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession\u00a0 with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted,\u00a0 socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/profile\/12551450586119958881\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">John Rogers<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span class=\"messageBody\">First the bad news.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span class=\"messageBody\">Then the good\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span class=\"messageBody\"><br>Beyond the jokes the biggest problem with Ayn Rand\u2019s philosophy is that it has followers who vote. If America is going to fall apart, I suggest the intellectual basis for the dismantling will come from Ms Rand\u2019s writings.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span class=\"messageBody\">If you need background: Here\u2019s a pretty good fairly <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelprescott.freeservers.com\/shrugging.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">brief analysis<\/a> from a disillusioned follower. And here\u2019s a rather <a href=\"http:\/\/www.2think.org\/02_2_she.shtml\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">harsher view<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span class=\"messageBody\">But as I see it, it isn\u2019t so much Objectivism as Libertarianism that is the problem.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"messageBody\"> I\u2019m less worried about her dogmatic followers than how her philosophy has poisoned the well of American culture. And that\u2019s Libertarianism. Libertarianism has become the water many of us drink. It calls for an unrestrained capitalism as a moral good. <\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/monkeymindonline.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/trembling-before-throne-of-god.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Elsewhere<\/a> I wrote how our shadow in this country is  economic greed, justified by this Randian Libertarianism.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">It is a relentless call to unfetter business, to  disallow regulation, and to let business do the business of business no  matter the social cost.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Worse, actually, pretending good will follow.\u00a0 <\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Now, I have no brief against business and economic  activity. It is a human thing. It can be glorious.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">And, it has deep  shadows, including the inclination for the rich to simply continue  getting richer while the poor get poorer. For capitalism to flourish it needs governors, it needs regulation and it needs people watching closely\u2026<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Thanks to this philosophy being taught as gospel, the average American is being taken for a ride, hearing the false  witness of libertarian economists and other apologists  for the rich, pretending we all might get there, too. When in fact this is simply dismantling what little protections the average person has in the face of the gathered power of the rich.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Ayn Rand sings a lie into the heart of the people. We\u2019re all isolated. We owe no one anything. And greed is good.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Okay that\u2019s the bad news.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Here\u2019s some good news.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Here\u2019s the truth about who we really are.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Good news for the lonely, the lost, the left behind\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">We\u2019re precious in our individuality. This means you. May the individual be sung for eternity.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6 class=\"uiStreamMessage\" style=\"font-weight: normal\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">And we are woven out of each other, completely totally dependent upon each other. We need each other.
