A total of 1250 copies were printed, and all were taken up by booksellers on the first day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>

On this day, the 24th of November, in 1859 Charles Darwin published his magnum opus On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A hundred and sixty years! My, how time flies\u2026<\/p>\n

Of course with this book we all began an inexorable shift in human thinking toward an understanding of evolutionary biology that would reframe how we understand ourselves and our relationship with the world.<\/p>\n

His work would be abused, still is being abused.<\/p>\n

But his naturalistic vision would also open doors to other doors, and we continue to walk through them.<\/p>\n
