\nToday, Camille Paglia\u2019s<\/a> birthday, Jan and I awoke at the Colonial Inn in Brattelboro, Vermont.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d been tracing our way up Maine\u2019s lovely rugged coast as far as Portland. Yes, not all that far, but a lovely drive, nonetheless\u2026<\/p>\n

Yesterday morning we came to the sad conclusion that to continue north meant a Monday dedicated to driving down a controlled access freeway at a severe gallop just to get home at a reasonable hour. We do promise auntie a nice dinner out when we take these little excursions on our own. <\/p>\n

So, instead, we turned West, more or less, spent a bit of time gazing at the remarkable Lake Winnipesaukee in the middle of New Hampshire, and then down the middle of the state until Keene, when we turned West again, and ended up in Brattleboro.<\/p>\n

We seem often to end up in Brattleboro.<\/p>\n

If it weren\u2019t for the long winters, I could retire in Brattleboro. One of the sweetest of towns in the East\u2026<\/p>\n

And so today, back to the leisurely drive south, mostly, likely, down route five until we hit forty-four in Massachusetts, and from there more or less due East to Providence\u2026<\/p>\n
