\nOn this day in 1967 the Summer of Love began with a Human Be-In at Golden Gate Park.<\/p>\n

I was just throwing myself into serious Zen practice, somewhere in the neighborhood of this date moving into a house across from the Berkeley Zendo, but still two years from joining with Jiyu Kennett and ordaining.<\/p>\n

Such hopes for the transformation of the world.<\/p>\n

As it turns out things didn\u2019t go the way I thought they might.<\/p>\n

For some addiction. Others early death. We were in a war. We\u2019re now in wars. There is a chance the world is dying.<\/p>\n

Such hurt and sadness.<\/p>\n

And, then, also, moments of such wonder.<\/p>\n

Joy.<\/p>\n

Beauty.<\/p>\n

Grace.<\/p>\n

All in all, I feel, worth the price of admission.<\/p>\n

And, closer to the end than to the beginning, mostly it is gratitude that fills my heart\u2026<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s to every generation\u2019s dawning, <\/p>\n

every heart\u2019s longing,<\/p>\n

And that moment of hope<\/p>\n

We each find<\/p>\n

In new beginnings\u2026<\/p>\n
