<\/a><\/div>\nI think one of the great moments in nearly every human life is that moment some night when we were outside and lay back for the first time and saw, really, really saw that night sky.<\/p>\n
And in a flash also perhaps, perhaps for the very first time, realized how small we are in relationship to it.<\/p>\n
How small I am in relationship to it. <\/p>\n
To it all\u2026<\/p>\n
A moment to cherish, a gift of immeasurable value.<\/p>\n
This is a turning moment for the human heart.<\/p>\n
Okay. Most, perhaps, see something pretty and move on. One more stop of the hand of the clock ticking from birth to death.<\/p>\n
But others find this a genuine turning moment. It is, after all, a confrontation with reality barely veiled.<\/p>\n
And for those who do notice, who did notice a couple of doors open.<\/p>\n
One option is to turn in fear. And seek comfort in stories that sing to us no, no, you\u2019re not small, you\u2019re the center of it all. Go back to sleep.<\/p>\n
Another, also a response to the fear that often accompanies the realization of how we actually do fit in to the great mess, and how insignificant we are to its play, is to shake one\u2019s fist at it all. Stand up and rage, rage against that eventual dying of your light.<\/p>\n
I find a certain nobility in this one. Spitting in god\u2019s eye as he devours you. I always did like the existentialist stance.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s another way, another door.<\/p>\n
To open your heart and not miss the harmony of your heart beating with the heart of the cosmos itself\u2026<\/p>\n
Joining the ecstasy and the sorrow without ceasing. <\/p>\n
What is really cool is that we can return to that moment we may have first squandered. We get second chances in this life. All the time.<\/p>\n
And now I see we\u2019re now at the peak of the perseid meteor shower<\/a>, known as the glorious 12th in some circles\u2026<\/p>\nIf you\u2019re in the northern hemisphere and there is a nice place to lay back and watch.<\/p>\n
