{"id":872,"date":"2009-08-21T08:33:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-21T08:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/monkeymind\/2009\/08\/like-a-smell-of-jasmine\/"},"modified":"2011-11-01T15:09:24","modified_gmt":"2011-11-01T19:09:24","slug":"like-a-smell-of-jasmine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/monkeymind\/2009\/08\/like-a-smell-of-jasmine.html","title":{"rendered":"Like a Smell of Jasmine"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_niPwTW3rBbU\/So6XNpXHfUI\/AAAAAAAACwU\/1q-iOq_LSEE\/s1600-h\/Tanglewood+Weekend+2008+56.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px;float: right;cursor: pointer;width: 400px;height: 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_niPwTW3rBbU\/So6XNpXHfUI\/AAAAAAAACwU\/1q-iOq_LSEE\/s400\/Tanglewood+Weekend+2008+56.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of those little treats of our new web based world is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panhala.net\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Panhala<\/a>, who sends me a poem every day\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Today I received something from the <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> poet Jane Hirschfield\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/books\/9780060951696\/The_Lives_of_the_Heart\/index.aspx\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Lives of the Heart<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic\">\u201cAlmost the twenty-first century\u201d \u2014<br><\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\">how quickly the thought will grow dated,<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><br>even quaint.<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our hopes, our future, <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><br>will pass like the hopes and futures of others.<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And all our anxieties and terrors, <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><br>nights of sleeplessness,<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><br>griefs,<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><br>will appear then as they truly are \u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;color:black\"><\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stumbling, delirious bees in the tea scent of jasmine.<\/p>\n<p>This afternoon Jan and I drive out to Western Massachusetts for our annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bso.org\/bso\/index.jsp?id=bcat5240070\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tanglewood<\/a> adventure, staying with some old friends, sleeping in, reading, attending of course, two Tanglewood events, weather permitting picking blueberries, maybe visiting a museum, maybe just hanging with old friends\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not sure, I think this is our eighth year.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019m aware of how our past adventures have blended into a sweet miasma of partial memories, events\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And, I\u2019m so aware, how quickly time passes by\u2026<\/p>\n<p>How these fleeting shadows are only that lingering memory, a hint of Jasmine\u2026<\/p>\n<p>To be enjoyed.<\/p>\n<p>But not grasped\u2026<\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/33904114-4463475931149136471?l=monkeymindonline.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of those little treats of our new web based world is Panhala, who sends me a poem every day\u2026.
