But just like I say about a lot of sexual things\u2026 stop blaming the \u201cthing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s talk about HOW we\u2019re USING \u201cthe thing\u201d<\/p>\n

Here are a few thoughts I had as I listened at the recent\u00a0#MOKAN<\/a> conference I attended (which had to do with helping people with suicidal ideation):<\/p>\n

Scrolling isn\u2019t a healthy way to use social media.<\/li>\n

Neither is comparison to other people\u2019s \u201cbest selves\u201d<\/li>\n

Neither is polarizing debate.<\/li>\n

Connecting with old friends or family you wouldn\u2019t otherwise be in contact with is.<\/li>\n

Engaging in both rich and even superficial (i.e. casual, catch-up) conversations is.<\/li>\n

Planning in-person connection that is fueled by on-line connection is.<\/li>\n

Asking for ideas\/resources is.<\/li>\n

Getting support you wouldn\u2019t necessarily find in your geographical area is.<\/li>\n

Getting support for something you might not be willing to be public about is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
