So, it\u2019s been a while since I\u2019ve written a blog post. Life has been keeping me busy. Most of my input into the online world has been in the form of quick Facebook status updates. Drive-by posting on the way downstairs to work or in the evenings after the kids are in bed, with guilty stops in during the day when I\u2019m supposed to be doing my ebay stuff. My mind has been full of the trivia of daily life, and I\u2019ve not been able to really get emotionally connected to a lot of the stories coming across my news feed.<\/p>\n
\u00a0The other reason I\u2019ve neglected my blog is that it\u2019s a Patheos<\/em> blog. Back over when I was blogging over at Blogger, I was just doing it for myself, no muss, no fuss, no stress. Then I got invited over here and all of a sudden I\u2019m a real blogger on a real website. I started to feel like whatever I posted needed to be important.<\/em> I should only write when I had something to say that I was passionate about. Something to do with the news or timeless truths and stuff like that.<\/p>\n \u00a0Well, I can be profound when the need arises, but so much of my life revolves around the beautifully banal world of being a wife and mom and business owner. Hubby hurt his back, son needs a costume for the school play, cat barfed on the rug kinda stuff. Not terribly profound, except that one time when the cat barf looked vaguely like an image of Rush Limbaugh. I\u2019m pretty sure that was an accident and not a social commentary by my cat, but only because he doesn\u2019t know who Rush Limbaugh is.<\/p>\n \u00a0I realized lately that this point of view won\u2019t work. I write what I write because I want to write it, not because someone assigned me a story or everyone is nattering on about the latest scandal in the news. Okay, so some days I\u2019ll tackle international diplomacy and drone strikes, but this is still my blog, so other days I\u2019ll write about my penchant for chicken livers (tossed in a mix of flour and Italian bread crumbs and sauteed in a mix of oil and butter) and fried eggplant. You like what I write, you are most welcome. You don\u2019t like what I write, well, don\u2019t let the door hit you in the backside on your way out.<\/p>\n \u00a0Right now, I have a tummy full of chicken livers and I\u2019m relaxing after a full day working. I caught the news today that the Catholic Pope is resigning. You know, there\u2019s a lot I could say about the child sexual abuse scandals in the Church, but seriously, I think we Muslims need to take care of our own issues before we point self-righteous fingers at other faiths. I\u2019ll just say that anyone anywhere who abuses a child should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, religion or social status notwithstanding. It has nothing to do with Catholicism and everything to do with humanity.<\/p>\n \u00a0What else is on the news? Controversy over US drone strikes, the Grammy awards, another courthouse shooting, a blizzard, spiders falling from the skies in Brazil. There\u2019s a lot going on out there. I guess I\u2019d better read up on it all so I can share a bit more of my pithy comments and my sometimes snarky point of view. Tomorrow. Tonight I\u2019m going to digest my dinner and then have some fried eggplant for a snack later, inshaAllah. Oh, and there\u2019s a new comedy showing in my very own living room. It\u2019s part two of \u201cEgyptian Husband Hangs Curtains\u201d. Part one was yesterday, and it was quite a show, I\u2019ll tell you. Give an Egyptian a power drill and he\u2019ll make more holes in the wall than there are in a wheel of Swiss cheese. I\u2019m going to just make some tea and enjoy the show. Banal? Probably.
