I just have to share this because usually I\u2019m not a crafty person.\u00a0 First of all, I\u2019m not terribly creative with \u201cartsy\u201d stuff.\u00a0 Those genes went to my sister Trish, who is an accomplished artist .\u00a0 Second, I often do not finish what I start.\u00a0 ADD and all that.\u00a0 So when I came up with an idea to make frames for my crochet work, I was tickled to be able to follow through and do it.<\/p>\n

So, here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 I am crocheting, and I have done several doilies lately.\u00a0 Doilies tend to be circular.\u00a0 Picture frames tend to be rectangular.\u00a0 Square would be okay, but rectangular, not so much.\u00a0 I googled around trying to find round picture frames, and they are less common and can be quite expensive.\u00a0 So I thought to myself \u201cSelf, what\u2019s round and hangs on a wall and looks good?\u201d\u00a0 A clock!\u00a0 Clocks come in all sizes.\u00a0 They are the requisite round shape.\u00a0 Could they be taken apart and jazzed up?\u00a0 Hmm.\u00a0 I started looking for clocks in the thrift stores but didn\u2019t find one that fit the bill.\u00a0 Then I was in a local megamart and I saw a perfect little clock that only cost about $4.\u00a0 I bought it, bought some yellow paint to match some speckles in my doily, and took it home.<\/p>\n

It took a couple of days for the concept to percolate in my brain.\u00a0 That\u2019s how I do stuff. I don\u2019t jump in right away, but rather I let the ideas ooze around in my brain for a while and then see what trickles out.\u00a0 Kinda like mental post nasal drip, but not gross.\u00a0 So, I did, and then yesterday afternoon I had a few free minutes.\u00a0 Grabbed my doily and my stuff.\u00a0 Went to the office.\u00a0 Grabbed a screwdriver and started pulling apart the clock, and then painted to obscure the numbers and stuff on the face, put the doily in, and voila!\u00a0 Instant doily frame!\u00a0 Here\u2019s the process:<\/p>\n

Step One:\u00a0 Buy a clock<\/p>\n

Step Two:\u00a0 Turn over clock, unscrew the screws, which free up the little band on the front that holds the glass in place, then pop out the mechanism of the clock, which makes the hands fall off<\/p>\n
