{"id":77,"date":"2010-09-09T12:14:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-09T12:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/muslimahinprogress\/2010\/09\/09\/pita-bread-recipe\/"},"modified":"2010-09-09T12:14:00","modified_gmt":"2010-09-09T12:14:00","slug":"pita-bread-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/muslimahinprogress\/2010\/09\/pita-bread-recipe.html","title":{"rendered":"Pita Bread Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><b><i>Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim<\/i><\/b><br><b><i><br><\/i><\/b><br><i>Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah<\/i><br><i><br><\/i><br>Here is the recipe I use for pita bread. \u00a0The basic dough recipe can be found all over the internet and can be used for pizza dough as well as pita bread:<\/p>\n<p>2 cups all purpose flour, divided<br>1 cup very warm water<br>1 tablespoon sugar<br>2 tablespoons active dry yeast<br>1 teaspoon salt<br>2 tablespoons oil (olive or vegetable)<\/p>\n<p>In the bowl of your electric mixer, add ONE cup of the flour; to this, add the other dry ingredients and the oil. \u00a0To this, add the very warm water. \u00a0Mix on low speed to blend then continue to mix for about three minutes, using the mixing attachment. <\/p>\n<p>Detach the mixing attachment and attach the dough hook. \u00a0Add the second cup of flour and mix for about ten minutes, adding extra flour if needed to make a dough that comes away from the sides and bottom of the bowl but is not super stiff. \u00a0After ten minutes, turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead by hand for one minute. <\/p>\n<p>Cut the dough into eight pieces and form each piece into a ball. \u00a0Let the dough rest and rise for about twenty minutes. \u00a0I use a clean trash bag to cover to keep it from drying out. \u00a0After about ten minutes, preheat the oven to 500 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Roll out your first ball of dough into a large thin round about 6 inches across, using sufficient flour on the counter and the rolling pin to keep it from sticking. \u00a0Flip only once when rolling out, or the pocket may not form. \u00a0Also, avoid getting any kinks or wrinkles in the dough. \u00a0Place on a cookie sheet and let rest for ten minutes. \u00a0Repeat with the other dough balls.<\/p>\n<p>Place the cookie sheet in the oven, one at a time, and bake for three minutes.
