{"id":23,"date":"2010-07-01T10:03:27","date_gmt":"2010-07-01T14:03:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/myislamiclife.wordpress.com\/?p=23"},"modified":"2010-07-01T10:03:27","modified_gmt":"2010-07-01T14:03:27","slug":"dinner-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/myislamiclife\/2010\/07\/01\/dinner-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"Dinner\u00a0Tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>In the interest of consuming the most healthful foods, buying less processed foods that we can make ourselves and saving a little money, we have been making our own soymilk.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fairly easy process, and since there are only 2 of us that drink soymilk in the family, one batch lasts 3 weeks.\u00a0 The byproduct is called Okara, which we have been using, in combination with chickpeas to make Ta\u2019amaia (Filafel).\u00a0 Now, I know that using chickpeas isn\u2019t <em>Egyptian. <\/em>But we re still in the process of tweaking our family recipe.\u00a0 At least it looks right!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/734\/2010\/07\/p10609851.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-28\" title=\"P1060985\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/734\/2010\/07\/p10609851.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mixed Batch Ta'amaia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I hope that in time, the kids will enjoy eating them as much as we do.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of Egypt\u2019s national dishes, and it\u2019s going to be in constant menu rotation.\u00a0 We serve them with Tahini Sauce, Cucumber, Tomato\u00a0and Pita.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_29\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/734\/2010\/07\/p10609871.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-29\" title=\"P1060987\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/734\/2010\/07\/p10609871.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-29\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finished Ta'amaia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After I posted this, it occurred to me that if someone like me had read this, they would have thought, \u201cLovely! She posted nice pictures, but how the hell is that going to help me make this!?\u201d So here\u2019s the notes:<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>1 Handfull Fresh Dill<\/p>\n<p>1 32oz can of Chickpeas<\/p>\n<p>1# of Okara or 1 32oz can of Fava Beans<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 Handfull Fresh Cilantro<\/p>\n<p>3T Dried Cilantro (Corriander)<\/p>\n<p>2 Cunches of Green Onion<\/p>\n<p>2t Kosher Salt<\/p>\n<p>1t Black pepper<\/p>\n<p>1t Red Pepper<\/p>\n<p>1t Chopped Garlic<\/p>\n<p>2-3 eggs<\/p>\n<p>Put all greens and garlic in food processor, pulse until mashed.\u00a0 Do the same with the beans.\u00a0 Mix it together like meatloaf.\u00a0 It should be the same texture as cold cookie dough.\u00a0 Deep fry in 320 degree oil.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let it get any hotter!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The best tips we\u2019ve learned on how to make this was on a Throwdown with Bobby Flay.\u00a0 He did a challenge with this wonderful woman making Filafel.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you can find it on
