There is a story of an old Buddhist monk who taught his disciples about the illusion of suffering and death and how peace and tranquility can be enjoyed in the midst of these illusions. Then his son died. He was so grief-stricken that he disappeared into his cave for weeks. When he finally emerged out of the cave his disciples cornered him: “You taught us about tranquility in the midst of the illusions of suffering and death, and yet you... Read more

I would call this one “Creationist in an Evolutionary World” or something like that. Here’s a man trying to escape from that which he doesn’t believe in. I suppose this could be an action picture of denial. Running away from science. Read more

I’ve been thinking a great deal since my trip to speak at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. I had an incredible weekend. This is me in a clerical robe and the green-themed Guatemalan stole getting ready for the Sunday morning service. I am naked underneath. Just like you. The first thing that hit me was that it is a very inclusive community. It was very mixed company, with heterosexuals, married, gay and lesbian couples, etc. But what got... Read more

It’s easy to talk the talk of diversification. It’s another thing to practice and embrace it. Especially if you are all alone. The most remarkable men and women in history have been those who, all by themselves, walked their unique path. In many cases their opposition was incredible and often fatal. But we will remember them for the good they accomplished. What is it that you sense you must do? What path are you intuiting that you must walk? Read more

I just spent the weekend with Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. It was a mind-blowing 48 hour trip. It is an inclusive community that I found encouraging. Such communities actually do exist. It was an overpowering and transformative weekend for me. I can’t wait to tell you all about it. I hope to be able to do that tomorrow. This cartoon, when I showed it to the community, got such a reaction, with laughter and applause, that I... Read more

I need enemies. This is the theme I plan on speaking on at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas on Sunday night. Here’s a little preview: I have enemies. There are people who I don’t like. Who have opposed me. Who I wish weren’t in my life. Who have hurt me. Who have hurt people I love. Who repulse me. Who shock me. Who I want nothing to do with. Who I want to suffer for what they’ve done.... Read more

This is a drawing I did of Rahab. I’m giving away a print of it, measuring 8″x10″ (20cm x 25cm). I love the story of Rahab in Joshua 2. She was a prostitute who lived in Jericho. She assisted the Israelite spies by using the crimson cord as a signal. For that she and her family was spared. Not only that, but she’s named in the lineage of Jesus. Courageous. Outspoken. Compassionate. Fierce. Definitely a fighter. Rahab. Here’s all you... Read more

I was talking with an acquaintance today who is gay. I was telling him about my upcoming weekend in Dallas, speaking at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas Texas. He was asking me why I was going there. I said it was because of my blog. He said, “You’re a blogger? What’s your blog?” I said, “Nakedpastor!” He exclaimed, “You’re him?” I laughed because it struck me so funny because we’ve known each other so long and I never brought... Read more
