Jesus said that true peace is not normal. True peace passes understanding. That can mean many things, like: we just don’t get it; we don’t recognize it when we have it; we can’t intellectually achieve it; anyone can have it; it satisfies us in unfamiliar ways… And so on. But one thing I know: just because we can’t feel it doesn’t mean we don’t have it. Buy a print of this cartoon. Read more

Amy Winehouse died yesterday. It is believed that drugs were not the cause. The word is that she died of a massive seizure due to her excessive drinking. Amy continued her drinking even after doctors’ continued warnings to stop because of the seizures. I love Amy’s music. I remember the first time I heard Rehab. I loved the attitude in her unique voice. I followed her story with interest, always hoping the best for her. I’m sad she’s gone. Peace, Amy. Read more

I am preparing a special VERY LIMITED EDITION (just 30!) of this Sophia drawing called “Steadfast”. They measure approximately 12″x18″ (30cm x 45cm). I am planning a small edition of only 30 of these fine art prints (they will be numbered and signed), and I plan to sell them for only $95 each. I hope to have them all ready in just a matter of days. I wonder how many people out there are interested? I sell my other Sophia... Read more

Stupid and hateful things are being said every day in the name of religion. Those who do so believe they are being inspired by their god and endorsed by their holy book. Actually, the root of their hatred is not their god or their book, but their own heart. They’re dicks in boxes they’ve inherited, modified and made for themselves. From bitter springs comes bitter water. (The title of this cartoon is inspired by a SNL skit by Justin Timberlake.)... Read more

Marks gospel says about the teaching of Jesus: They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Some people think that if they have the church and the bible behind them… (and not just any church, but their particular church… and not just any bible but their particular interpretation of it)… then they have authority to say incredibly stupid, inhumane and mean things. The reason Jesus’ teaching was so different... Read more

What constitutes a community? Sociologists still argue over that. But since the advent of the Internet, we can agree that community is no longer limited by geography. I am experiencing all the aspects of church online. Especially these days. There is mutual encouragement, edification, admonishment, teaching, prayer, serving, etc., occurring here. There is even disagreement and division! And I’m very thankful. Own the original drawing! Buy a print of this cartoon. Or, get my book full of cartoons like this... Read more

I had a dream last night: A huge storm has come through and totally destroyed my house. I had in the past put up sandbags to protect our house. And up to now they have worked. But this time the storm was so powerful that the sandbags were swept away. There’s nothing I can do. Even though we have coped previous storms, this one was simply too much. I have to rely on insurance. I wake up realizing that sometimes... Read more

We all remember being afraid of monsters under the bed. We never saw them. But we imagined what they might look like. Eventually we grew up and the monsters lost their terrifying grip on us. Same with doubt. From our earliest years we were taught about the terrible monster “Doubt”. And Doubting Thomas was used as the illustration. But as we grow up we learn that doubt is an important ingredient in wisdom. It actually helps us to question That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Questioned... Read more

Saint Justin Martyr (103–165 A.D.) said, “All truth is ours.” He meant that all truth is in Christ, so that whatever is true is in Christ and belongs to Christ, and that if we are in Christ, then all truth belongs to us as Christians. Everyone can say that all truth is ours. Buddhists can. Hindus can. Muslims can. Atheists can. Agnostics can. New Agers can. Philosophers can. Everyone can. Anyone can. “All truth is ours!” is a glorious human... Read more
