Welcome to a different kind of FREEBIE FRIDAY<\/strong>. Today I\u2019m not giving away any of my art. Instead, I\u2019m introducing you to another artist, my friend Rachel Chesney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I meet very interesting people through my blog. I mostly meet people who have serious questions and want to ask them. They have discovered that the faith isn\u2019t all they\u2019ve been fed. They\u2019ve seen behind the curtain and it has spoiled everything. They need a new understanding and a new way to articulate this understanding. They\u2019re looking for a way to walk their own path with courage, integrity, and a clear conscience and intellect. Somehow the conversations that take place on nakedpastor<\/strong> provide a means to do that.<\/p>\n

(I have a confession)<\/strong> When I\u2019m listening to my iTunes and a worship song comes on I fast-forward it. You might jump to the conclusion that it\u2019s a bitter reaction to all that happened to me in the church. I\u2019ve seriously meditated on this and I can honestly say I don\u2019t think so. Almost all the worship music I have certainly does represent for me the superficiality, hypocrisy and naivet\u00e9 of a spirituality I have rejected. I\u2019m not talking about, say, Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/strong> or the collection of Russian Orthodox choirs<\/strong> or Renaissance Church music<\/strong> I have. I\u2019ll listen to that because of its depth, seriousness and wisdom. No, I\u2019m talking about most modern worship music. I fast-forward it. I\u2019ve even started deleting some. (Confession over.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

But there\u2019s some musical art that catches my ear, mind and heart. Like Rachel\u2019s. I met her through my blog\u00a0 a while ago. She was seriously involved in a church and worship leading. But she\u2019s experienced quite a few traumatic changes in her life recently and the struggle is evident in her voice and music. She sent me a track a while ago and I was impressed with its authenticity and honesty. It is very raw, acoustic and genuine, with no voice-correction or electronic tricks. It reminds me of some of the Psalms or Lamentations\u2026 there is a current of sorrow, but blended with an implicit strength. I don\u2019t fast-forward it. Many of you will love it.<\/p>\n
