<\/a>Light. We all depend on light.<\/div>\n
Sunlight to grow our food,<\/div>\n
Sunlight to warm our bodies,<\/div>\n
A lamp to read by,<\/div>\n
Candles for ritual,<\/div>\n
A fire for comfort,<\/div>\n
Moonlight and starlight for dreams and visions.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
They say the moon is fickle,<\/div>\n
But she keeps her course,<\/div>\n
Steering her boat of dreams around the Earth,<\/div>\n
Now a tiny fragile crescent,<\/div>\n
Then a full glowing orb,<\/div>\n
And sometimes she steers her boat<\/div>\n
In front of the sun,<\/div>\n
To remind us how much we need the light.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That moment of awe and terror,<\/div>\n
When the moon eclipses the sun,<\/div>\n
And those who watch below pause,<\/div>\n
In a moment of stillness<\/div>\n
Watching as the sun becomes a waning crescent,<\/div>\n
Then beads of fire,<\/div>\n
Then a corona of shining threads,<\/div>\n
Waiting for the sun to come back,<\/div>\n
Holding our breaths until she returns.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So we give thanks for light,<\/div>\n
As we light our small flame,<\/div>\n
A flame of gathering,<\/div>\n
A flame for comfort,<\/div>\n
A tiny sun resting in a bowl of space.<\/div>\n
