NEW YORK \u2013 US Muslims are not immune to the country\u2019s police violence on Black people. On March 18, 2018, African American Muslim Stephon Clark, 22, was\u00a0killed<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Meadowview, Sacramento, California. Police officers Terrance Mercadal\u00a0and\u00a0Jared Robinet shot an unarmed Clark eight times.<\/p>\n

Almost one year after the shooting, Sacramento prosecutors announced that the two police officers responsible for Clark\u2019s death would not face charges.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must recognize that they are often forced to make split-second decisions,\u201d said District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert.<\/p>\n

The district attorney defended the officers\u2019 use of lethal force during a press\u00a0conference<\/a>. \u201cWe must recognize that they are under tense uncertain and rapidly evolving circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the spread of the decision, hundreds of high school and college students\u00a0protested<\/a>\u00a0at the California state capitol, resulting in 84 arrests. There was another vigil turned protest at the District Attorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Black Muslims continue to engage on the ground and discuss the issue of police brutality inside and outside of Muslim communities.<\/p>\n
