NLQ Question of the Week: Why Are Fundamentalists So Quick To Claim They Are Being Persecuted? August 20, 2015

QuestionoftheweekThis is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life.

We keep seeing this in the world of quiverfull/evangelical/fundamentalist Christianity that if things do not go according to their plan then they start to loudly protest that they are being persecuted. This is what the Duggars still claim over the legal release of the police report of about Josh’s molestation of five young girls. Because the allegations were made public it’s somehow persecution or a plot by the liberal media to take them down, instead of what it is. The Duggars are not the only ones making this claim either, it’s something that conservative Christian politicians and prominent pastors have done for years. Behave in socially unacceptable ways but when you are called out for it suddenly claim you’re being persecuted. Why do you think that this is the go-to move for many? Why is martyrbating so popular.
