<\/a>Is anyone else watching this show and wants to discuss it? Both myself and Cindy Kunsman<\/a> have been watching and talking about Hulu\u2019s new and quite frightening take on Margaret Atwood\u2019s book. I thought on Wednesday evenings we could have an open thread for anyone watching the show to discuss.<\/p>\nYears ago when I first read this book I thought it was far-fetched, but with Mike Pence, an Evangelical not too dissimilar to those in the book and television show, just a heartbeat away from the presidency it now takes on a scary possibility for our future.<\/p>\n

Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized \u2018return to traditional values\u2019. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander\u2019s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids \u2013 where anyone could be a spy for Gilead \u2013 all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her. \u201c<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The show star Elizabeth Moss.
